I would have liked to swim before yoga but the pool was jammed up with an aqua aerobic class. As I’ve said before, noon time is the best for the pool, heck for the whole gym. Tucked in a mini swim with 200 warm up, 500 of various drills, and finishing with 300 concentrating on form and catch. I’ll never really be a swimmer but I’d like to be efficient and have the endurance.

I’ve got some lofty goals this year and have committed extra training time to get there. So I headed up to the gym after the run. Core and deltoids mostly. Keeping up with the 100 push ups. Some good ab moves that will have me sore tomorrow and also the lower back.

Checked the weather for today and it was forecasted at 54 degrees. I think it’s in the 60’s! Great news for a winter hater like me. Can’t waste that, so Liam and I hit the pavement. He’s getting better with every run. I don’t let him pull me but just the dog on a leash thing has me cruising about 10 seconds a mile faster. Nice run and we added a little bit to avoid the dreaded busy road.

I got this for Christmas but circumstances had me put off the first ride until today. Put it together, brought the bike in and set it all up down in the family room. I didn’t really feel like doing the DVD that came with it so I just picked a movie on cable. Good work out. Medium resistance throughout with upshifting during commercial breaks. Sounds reasonable but the commercials on AMC are long! I was sweating buckets and my legs were burning a bit. That’s all good, right? Finished with some yoga on the floor for about 30 minutes.

Took Liam for a neighborhood run again. The weather will be nasty tomorrow so this was the chance to get outside. He had a little trouble with the trash truck. It’s big and noisy and men jump out of it all the time and it makes a big crushing noise every few houses. After that we were okay. He loves being out with me and he seems to love me too, but he hasn’t gotten the fact that I’ll protect him and he’s not always in danger. He’s in good shape though. I felt fine on the run. Got new shoes, Mizunos that I’ve never had. Going to give them a try. Finished with 100 push ups in the family room with some abs. My other dog, Maggie looking on.

I was planning on running with the dog again today, getting him all tuckered out by bedtime. But what crazy wind we’re having! I hate the wind. It could be 20 degrees (anyone wonder why there’s not a symbol for degrees on the keyboard?) outside and I’ll just bundle up. But with strong winds, the cold cuts
like a stone sharpened knife. So I went to the gym instead and took my first ride on the treadmill in many, many months. I did three easy miles and then headed for the locker room to suit up for the pool. Mostly drills interspersed with the most efficient 50’s I could muster. No speed but total concentration on form. Hopefully Saturday will be the day I can get out on the road again.
